Hmmph. Inappropriate action on the part of the judge who allowed them to stay. SilverWarder Send a noteboard - 03/03/2010 06:22:08 PM
Sets a very bad precedent.

Think on this. This means that ANY person who is a part of any culture or country anywhere which has a more restrictive law on ANYTHING than the US can now apply for political asylum?

Look long enough and hard enough that applies to virtually everyone in every country in the world. They should all be allowed asylum, bypassing the normal immigration process? I think not.

I don't have any particular problem with them immigrating or being accepted as immigrants. That's fine. Granting them aslyum is too much. Are we going to start granting asylum to Brits who want to own guns? After all, the right to keep and bear arms is inscribed right in the Constitution - the right to homeschool is not. That's clearly a 'more important' right. By precedent anyone who wanted to own a firearm in Britain could then apply for asylum? That's nutsy.

As to homeschooling, provided that there are tests to show ability to understand the basic concepts and precepts of society, then homeschooling is fine. However, if there is curriculum that is part of the school system which is required, then it must also be required of homeschoolers. Yes that would include such basic social curriculum as history, geography, culture etc. and where it is required Sex ed as well (it should be required everywhere - the basics of biology and reproduction should be known to everyone as that's just biology).

So, fine on them being in the US (I'd be fine with them being here in Canada too) but a big thumbs down on the judge for allowing it to be an asylum issue. Their safety wasn't at risk, therefore, no asylum.
May God stand between you and harm in all the empty places you must walk.
