i remember running into one of my professors on jury duty and i asked her if she had any advice for applying to jobs and her response was "i'm not sure you could get a good answer to that question from the department, as nobody has ever had to work in the real world"

I have a friend who has a masters in physics, it got him a very cushy job with Raytheon.


physics is kind of a wide subject. There are a lot of things which could land you pretty nice jobs if you had the foreknowledge to do something while in college/uni which is actually interesting from an industrial point of view. Semiconductor theory was apparently not that over here. :P

He isn't really allowed to talk about what he does. I know that he works in the "Denver area" which means he's working in Cheyenne Mountain, and that he's done something at some point with a satellite. Outside of that....I have no idea what he really does....classified government secrets and all that prevent him from discussing work with us. :P
