People comment those acts and sometimes they use religion to justify them but the communist proved that people are capable of sufficient maiming and killing with religion. Religion can and does do a lot of good of in the world. If you just look at the Judaea Christian value system there are definitely parts of it that need to be tossed out but most of those tend to be culture then anything else.

Sorry but the idea that we can somehow make the world better by killing religion as misguided as the idea that we can make the world better by having only one "true" religion. What real changes to you think could be accomplished if we did manage to kill religion? Do you think people would actually start treating each other better if the didn’t believe in god?

Unfortunately, no, I don't think it would solve anything. In an [my] ideal world, it could be done and would be beneficial. However, some people need to believe there is some higher power in order to not do evil, or to make their existence more worthwhile...to feel like there is something lasting place to spend eternity.

We had this debate one day in one of my ancient Greek classes. Our professor was saying that all morality and values stem from Christianity, and not the cultures which came before its inception as the dominant religion. I was incredulous, as he was a professor...of ancient history and Classics...yet he said the Greeks did not practice such common sense things as "don't kill your neighbor because he might retaliate," "don't be adulterous because you might end up raising someone else's kid," and "hey! don't steal...you might ruin the economy if you do!" for any moral reasons, and that Christianity didn't derive these things from said cultures.

The reason why I bring this up is because I believe in humanity's ability to perpetuate itself, using such common principles as the aforementioned, without the need to quantify or authorize them as necessities from some higher power. I help my fellow human being because I desire to, and I hope some day when I need help there will be someone willing to return the favor. I don't do a bunch of favors for ulterior motives or to get roll over points with Jesus and the apostles in order to get onto the VIP access to enter the Heaven dance club.
