There's a reason they're disillusioned with both parties: Neither of them works for the people. That's more of the alienation I learned about in HS Econ while the rest of the class was marking time till graduation. He no longer felt he was represented in his own country, that his voice was heard or his opinions, his feelings, his very life, mattered. In such a state, it's easy to see everyone as a foe and the concept of "innocent bystanders" disappears. I doubt he recognized that most if not all of the people he was trying to murder (and by the Grace of God, he doesn't seem to have killed anyone) were people just like him trying to survive despite the system as best they could. Which means the system got to him, too, by the way.

If you read what the guy said, it seems pretty clear to me his problem wasn't "big government" in itself, but unaccountable government serving the interests of a powerful (and wealthy) few. Not that he was expected to pay taxes, or they were too high, or even (IIRC) that much of it was wasted, but that he was expected to finance corporate malfeasance and greed with his taxes, and the same laws that allow corporations to pay little or no taxes don't apply to the rest of us. I'm a little disturbed by how much of what he said has come from my lips in times past. There are very few problems to be solved by killing though, and even if one feels (which I very much don't) it's time for violent revolution, trying to murder a bunch of random strangers isn't the way to do it. That is very much NOT what the Founding Fathers did, and they exhausted every other possible means of redressing their grievances before they ventured with extreme reluctance into the realm of war.
