It's official. Last Friday I asked Vincent to marry me. The occasion was our 250 weekaversary. This is what happened.
For months, I've known that I would ask him. I've contemplated many surprise city trips, hotel trips, weekend getaways. But on the one hand considering the financial limitations in light of our trip to the US early May, and on the other hand my worries that I might just pick a really shitty place and that'd always be the place where we'd gotten engaged and therefore special... I ended up deciding that since Vincent's favourite place in the world is Amsterdam, we'd stay here.
I'd arranged that Vincent would keep the weekend available and Vijay would stay with my parents. I asked him early in the day, during our after sex cuddling (I figured I'd better ask when he's at his most vulnerable! Muahahaha). He said yes!
From then on, we let the weekend be decided by fate. We'd put different lunch places and restaurants on little pieces of paper, and Vincent would pick one and that's where we'd go!
On Saturday we went to buy rings. Originally we thought that it would take a while to find the right ones, but we found the perfect rings (for us) within half an hour!
The Netherlands doesn't have the huge diamond tradition. We both got brushed silver rings, about 4-5 mm wide, flat surface. Mine has a shiny second ring placed diagonally around it, which is much thinner and round (like a string). As you can hear, they're simple, yet elegant (at least, that's what I think!).
We haven't set a wedding date yet. The idea is that we'll be engaged for some years. I realize it's unusual, but really, we'll need that time to find the perfect cake!
