Which airport do you feel is the most affordable?
Without a shadow of a doubt, Edinburgh is a cheaper city. In fact, it's almost embarrassingly cheap (that coming from the perspective of a Dublin girl who has to overpay for everything).
Would you recommend flying into London and taking a cheap flight up to Scotland instead of flying in further north at the risk of spending more?
No, I would not. Just go to Scotland.
Is there somewhere else (other than Edinburgh) you would recommend that is culturally wealthy, has enough to do for a week worth of events, has a decent food scene, and is affordable?
Dunno

Cardiff, maybe.
I know "affordable" is a subjective word, open to interpretation depending on whom you're speaking with. Let me put it this way, my traveling buddy and I are 2 students, with not a whole lot of cash, but we're willing to splurge on this vacation to make it worthwhile.
Any comments/help you might want to suggest would be great. Thanks!
Avoid Ireland, it's eye-wateringly expensive. I recommend Edinburgh, it's a lovely city and the cost of living is low. Obviously wages are correspondingly low but you're not working there, are you

Thanks, Elaine. We honestly want to go to Cardiff, as well, but figured the traveling to there and back would be rather expensive and take away a lot of time we could spend experiencing things by being in a train for several hours. I really want to see Ireland, but I have been sworn bodily harm and death to my person if I were to travel there without my boyfriend's mother in tow.
Okay, all you Brits, I have a couple of questions regarding travel...
