Actually, it's a little podunk town a little over 30 miles N of there (population is listed at 1400, IIRC, though for some reason we have a dozen cops who want me to buy a chopper! ) As we were all netfailing out of Chat it occurred to me I probably lived closer to the server than anyone but Mike. I used to tease people during the "no, it's not x time it's y" arguments by pointing them to the CMB as authority; now that's gonna bite me in the butt.
The whole thing was rather surreal for me this last year, because driving my fiancee around many of my old haunts, just a month after losing a twelve year old dog I raised from one month, made me very conscious of how my life had suddenly, inadvertently and almost literally come to revolve around Mike.
Before I lived at wotmania, I lived at the UT Student Union; the years spent learning bridge there did almost as much harm to my abortive collegiate career as my parents divorce and general lack of discipline. At that time, almost twenty years ago and fresh out of HS, I lived behind a grocery store on the same road on which I now work (during the move from, basically, where I am came and went all night every night; now I know. ) The last home for the dog I raised from a pup starting in the second grade, the last place my nuclear family was intact. That road changes names three times in that interval, but if you stay on it through two more name changes it becomes the road on which Mike lives, passing by my best friends mom shortly before reaching him (I think he's on the other side of one of the three major highways it crosses, but I've never checked so I'm not sure. ) At one of the name changes you have the option of going straight, in which case it becomes the road on which I work, or turning left and "staying on" the original road, which will take you by my church.
Just a few hours ago I got a call from an old HS buddy who's back in town to start doctorate work at UT, and informed me he was "heading toward your old home" by which he meant the Perry-Castaneda Library, but my first thought was the building where wotmanias server was until two nights ago. Life is funny, huh? Now, will the previous owner of a silver '01 Buick Century purchased in Lansing please tell me he's not Mike? Because that would be a little too freaky for me....
