And that, because I work for a living, I don't have time to research. If you'd care to pay my bills and set aside money to get my fiancee to me (or vice versa) I'd be happy to find an answer for you. Otherwise, those things take priority over answering your question right now, apart from saying it would vary with the individuals earnings and cost of living as well as annual increases in inflation.
If tax revenue increased so much while nonmilitary spending fell so much (both documented facts) then we were horribly misled by the cost of the Iraq war. Which makes statistics provided by those who misled us rather dubious.
What, for example, do YOU specifically mean by "the rich paid a higher portion of income taxes and tax revenue increased to record highs"? I'd like to see a source on the latter given we were in a series of recessions for most of Bushs two terms. With the increases we saw in unemployment I can certainly see how the wealthiest might have their taxes reduced, either as a percentage or in raw dollars, and still pay a greater share of the tax burden than the rapidly shrinking middle class. I can't help wondering how, even though the promised economic stimulus failed to materialize, tax revenue increased as both earnings and tax rates fell. Sounds like fuzzy math to me, but then, a very smart guy always said it was....
You really are a classic class warfare lib.....sorry about that.
The rich pay enough and higher taxes will not have the affect you assume they will. After GWB's tax cuts, the rich paid a higher portion of income taxes and tax revenue increased to record highs.
What does that tell you?
