It would be fine while in the room. But I go to college in Boston and live in Louisiana.

The issues of traveling and storing a desktop just aren't worth it to me.
Eh. I don't know how my laptop would stand up to Crysis, but it runs Oblivion just fine on full graphics (my somewhat-outdated benchmark), and there's only a barely noticeable bit of choppiness on Dragon Age if I crank that up to full, too. And my laptop is a business notebook.
The specs for it are (apparently HP uses metric except for screens, so I've converted it all to American customary):
6.2 lb
1.1 x 14.1 x 10.2 in
15.4 inch screen
I got it for something around $1700 (that includes quite a few components). To me, the usefulness of having one computer instead of two is worth the extra money, but I can see why someone with a less transient life would spring for two.
For the most part though, if you get something powerful enough to play games decently, you're talking some serious bulk.

An honest question- Why do people spend so much money on laptops?

Yup, I bought a netbook and it's better than any amount of money I could have spent on a laptop. *NM*

Mine are portable design machines, so my aging Powerbook will likely be replaced by a Macbook Pro. *NM*

Well, if you want to play games, it's fairly necessary.
