Although I have to say that while I'm sure that at least all Senators are the sort of politician you describe--well-meaning, perhaps a bit out of touch, etc.--Representatives can make for some highly entertaining/horrifying news. Some are just scumbags. Granted, in a body of 435 you're going to get some scumbags.

Now, with regard to state legislature, no. There are a ton of greedy and ignorant fools in the state system. I dare you to come and witness the Louisiana legislature. :P

Okay, there are some exceptions to the rule, I did say 'most', I'd still bet most were decent. Jindal certainly seems a good guy, though I've heard one of your senators refered to as a whore and I gather the other had a fondness for them, Cassidy is supposed to be pretty good, not exactly a rising star, but I like to see physicians in congress these days considering the 'paramount issue of our times'.

Yes, I would have to admit Louisiana is probably not the bastion of good governance though.
