Do you ever get lost in Wiki Search Vortices - Edit 1

Before modification by The_Muted_Grimaud at 26/12/2009 06:45:35 AM

So, I found a friend of mine had moved to Surabaya, in Indonesia (temporarily while she waits for a US Visa). So, I said, where the hell is that (not Indonesia, but Surabaya in Indonesia) ... I think I went from Surabaya, and I kept clicking on sister cities, eventually finding Sau Paulo ... where I read that Sau Paulo has 11000000 million people or something. I said, 'Shit! That's bigger than NYC.' So I wiki-ed that, then I wiki-ed metropolitan statistical area statistics, then some other statistics, looked at various other cities. Suffice it to say, I ended up using almost an hour and a half wiking random shit.

All I remember is which island Surabaya is on (I could point it out on a map at least). Sau Paulo is a huge city, New York Metro area has 19,000,000 million people which is short of Tokyo, and slightly short of Mexico City and Seoul (I think, NYC was fourth in that 'stat'. It was second in in a different statistical category, still 16 million behind Tokyo though.

Anyway ..

1) Do you get caught in Wiki Search Votices?

2) How much time do you waste?

3) Do you think you learn anything or is it all kind of fade away pretty quick?

4) Is wikipedia a good thing or a bad thing?

5) What type of topics do you find yourself typically lost in, or is it random?

6) Any other comments.
