that outside of books and movies and music, people who profess love at first sight are regarded as more than a little strange. Creepy, maybe even stalker-y. So even if that's what you feel, you're likely to keep quiet until it's more socially acceptable - e.g., after a few dates at least. I think that's what Amys is saying. They feel it, they don't acknowledge it (or call it by that name, anyway), but when the relationship is established, the memories get restored, not so much re-assigned.
That's the romantic view of it anyway. I am not sure what I believe... probably it can happen, but it hasn't happened to me, and I don't know if it could. I fall in love with personalities, and the faces they belong to become beautiful afterward. (I cannot be objective about looks for this reason. I genuinely think all my female friends are gorgeous, too.)
