At the place I work, we have a large employee turnover. That's just how it goes. But why should that continue with the job market the way it is? It's not our bosses fault, really. It's not like when we fire people its for stupid reasons. These are his current three main criteria for working with us:
1. Don't steal
2. Show up for work
3. Look busy
That's it. But we've lately fired a bunch of people for stealing (not even stuff that they might be able to justify in any way shape or form, I mean someone stuffed a shitload of candy in his bag). We also have the people who just don't show up, or who leave for lunch and don't come back or call or make any attempt to contact us for 4 days. Hey, we're sorry you were robbed. Its okay you didn't come back that night. It might even be passable that you didn't call us afterwards. It's not okay to not make any effort to contact us for days, or answer our calls, or let us know what's going on. We thought she was dead, for crying out loud. See, she worked the overnight, then went to lunch at 2:45ish in the morning and never came back. She walked like 4 blocks to White Castle and got robbed on the way. But still, she didn't get hurt or anything. But she wanted her job back.
We also hire people. They're dumb as hell. "What do you mean my cash drawer can't be off?" "Wait, I'm supposed to call you when I need change? You don't just know" "You mean I can't just start wandering around the store whenever I feel like and especially not when I'm busy?" "What do you mean 5 times is too many times to tell me where to put the trash?" Oh, and they YELL at you three days after starting because the first 2 weeks of their schedule they're working 4 days a week while we train them but that's not enough. Nope. 4 days a week for the first two weeks of work isn't enough for the jobless. I'm starting to see why unemployment is so high...
