Or if they're not wood, they're going to be more industrial than stylish.
I like the Carter Continental one above the best with your current furniture actually (the one with the champagne plating). Why did you get talked out of that one?
I'm looking at it more, and I do like. Also, the Simplicity description focuses on its practicality and ease of assembly, while Carter Continental goes on about the aethetic appeal of the "opulent contrast between the two finishes." Even though with Simplicity, I get 2 pieces, I'm starting to lean towards Carter Continental now.
ETA: I know from what you've said in the past that you take your books very seriously too, both in how you treat them and how you want them displayed. Which is another reason you're more willing to spend more $$ on this than other people are willing to for bookshelves. That doesn't make it wrong for you to do so, it just helps explain why your price range is higher. I'm all about helping you justify buying these
I also really care about how my room looks. I'm not spending a lot on rent, but I want the inside to look polished and cool, to be very me.
I found your feedback to be very helpful.

Most shelves are "no tools required, minimal assembly"

They look nice, but there's no way I'd pay $950 for them, personally.
