So, how do you feel about your books?
Would you ever give your books away? Sell your books?
Have any of you ever thought about why you keep your books?
In all honesty, I LOVE MY BOOKS. Lovelovelove them. Loooooove them. HOWEVER, the addendum to this is that I really only own the books that I truly enjoy and have read several times, and intend to re-read more over the years to come. You might think this would curtail my collection, but actually I like a lot of stuff and have been lucky enough to grab a lot of good stuff either at great prices or free. My husband finds it quirky in that I-don't-get-this-but-you're-my-wife-so-it's-kind-of-cute way, but he has expressed more than once that to his mind, once you've read the book, what's the point in keeping it?? Re-reading is NOT something he computes.
I have very few books right now that I would consider giving away or selling. Most of those are books that have been given to me by others and while I've read them all at least a couple times, I wouldn't cry over the idea of removing them to make room for others I like better. It's not at all a huge number - probably 75 or so - and they all fit on one shelf. And I READ them. So why would I get rid of them? That's basically the opposite attitude of my hubby, funny huh?
More than the reality that I have few books and read them, however, is the fact that I paid money for those books and I intend to KEEP THEM. I have worked my ass off for a long time, and we get along well finanacially, but a long time ago I developed a real stinginess with my money that I can't shake from my personality. And don't want to. Even if I only paid a quarter for a book at a garage sale, dammit it was MY QUARTER. So, I keep them.
On possession of books.

People seem to lend books! I am in a distinct minority. I don't lend books. Or give them to people.

Library donation is a good idea; you might check around with some local schools, too.
