Didn't hear that, but probably. Legolas Send a noteboard - 23/10/2009 11:17:57 AM
During that one, a BNP member walked straight into the trap of saying that "Ashley Cole should go back where he came from," (erm, the East End of London?), which regardless of anything else made him sound like an absolute fricking moron.

Nice. Someone in the audience on Question Time did come up with that "so where do you want me to go?" question, even if he had to insert some pathetic insults in it, and unsurprisingly Griffin tried to avoid answering.
The Question Time interlude did an interesting job of making Griffin look completely out of his depth when faced with serious politicians and journalists, but didn't engage properly with the issues and just degenerated into a slanging match at times. If the goal was to give him enough rope to hang himself, it didn't quite succeed, although it came close a few times.

Not really the impression I got, actually. What with all the attacks and all the supposed things he said, there was little enough time for most of them that he could get away with denying that he said it, or hinting that there was more to the story and he could explain it if given enough time. And Straw in particular didn't make much of an impression on me... but then he did have the hardest job, being in the government.
That said, the bit where he claimed that the BNP had abandoned its policty of anti-semitism so they could support Israel and bash some Muslims instead (cue the probable Israeli reaction of, "Erm, thanks but not thanks,";) in a newfound sense of Islamaphobic brotherhood was genuinely hilarious.

I guess I see these things differently because I see the BNP as just another far-right / Islamophobic party in Europe, rather than strictly in the British context, so I found that reaction entirely predictable - several of the far right parties do it, sucking up to Israel or the local Jewish community, with varying degrees of success. Though yes, for the Holocaust-deniers among them such as Griffin, that's a fairly ambitious attempt with little chance of success...
