It's a joke. He hasn't done anything to warrant this. I don't have a problem with them awarding it to people that believe differently than I do, but they should at least have something powerful that connects them with peace.


I would have been very impressed if he had refused it. He could do it politely, and say something about how he doesn't feel worthy enough to stand alongside some of the past recipients, or he could have been frank, and told them that he did not approve of their obvious politicizing of what used to be a very honorable award.

Either way, I would have heartily backed my President on it. I know some parts of his speech seemed to hint at him doing nothing to earn this award, but he should have been more outspoken about it. Told them to stop giving out awards until they could find people who deserved them.
