The EU needs a single focal point to represent them on the international stage. This rotating presidency is unmanageable with 27 nations.

Though that "single focal point" as it stands will not be elected at all (it *would* be an interesting experiment, as far as I'm aware unheard of anywhere else in the world, a multinational election...), but will be decided on in the usual not very democratic way, and with the usual arguments about whether to take someone from the Eurozone or not, whether the candidates are not pro-European enough or too pro-European, whether their country of origin is already overrepresented, and so on.


I was under the assumption there would be a vote in the EU parliament.
