Of course not, but still this is a disappointing result for him. Legolas Send a noteboard - 16/03/2017 05:44:41 PM

View original postYes, because if there is ONE THING we learned in 2016 its the accuracy of polls.

Seems he'll get 20 in the end - nice increase from 15 in 2012, sure, but if you know he had 24 back in 2010, and he was polling over 30 so recently, it's a disappointment however you like to spin it. The polls seem to have been pretty accurate actually; he was leading but then faded badly down the stretch, in part due to the whole Turkey mess which gained the VVD a lot of extra votes in the last few days which the polls didn't capture anymore.

That said, I quite agree that he isn't going anywhere and ultimately it doesn't matter much whether he has 20 seats or 30 - he wasn't going to join government even if he had become the largest party, he would neither want to nor be able to (and I don't just say that because of his ideology - but rather because he won't even let his own MPs talk to the press, there's a reason I called them hapless lackeys).

View original postAnd I daresay this is why they were ginning up so much hysteria over Wilders - they knew this guy they portrayed as the Dutch version of the anti-Christ was going to gain, that his ideas are not losing or fading, so they make astronomically cataclysmic predictions to make the actual loss seem less significant in comparison.

Nice theory, if by 'they' you mean foreign media which failed to realize that Wilders wasn't going to be in the government no matter what. If you're referring to the polls I mentioned, that's nonsense.
View original postOh, so there IS a Muslim you people don't like! Good to know.

I'm guessing you're in a contest with Joel for dumbest comment of the week there? I'm sure he can beat you if he really tries, though.
View original postWow, I pretty much assumed the stuff about the Netherlands being perverts was wild (pardon the pun) exaggeration, but if this is how they conduct politics, I must be wrong. Just tapping a foot in a bathroom stall ends political careers in America, but getting to third base is a happy headline in the Netherlands. Which also sounds like a pun, come to think of it,

Hah. You would think an American site like Politico would have proofreaders who can point this kind of thing out to their European writers, indeed... we'd have to ask our resident Brits to which extent the American meaning of the phrase is understood also in the UK. The funny thing is, I dare say that many on the left in the Netherlands would find it quite an apt metaphor, however accidental...
