I am not a die-hard conservative. I am generally a libertarian. My point is that the Republican Party is acting in a hypocritical fashion because Trump is exactly what they've been hoping for.
For what it's worth, I can sometimes be populist in my opinions - I was very much in support of Perot in 1992, for example. I think that the fundamental role of the government is to protect its people from all enemies, foreign and domestic. So I do sympathize with all the people losing their jobs to a notion of unbridled free trade that is benefiting only small sectors of the country. I also don't think we should just let in anyone who breaks our laws to cross our borders. Either we have a country or we don't. I think if Angela Merkel were my President I would be actively trying to remove her from power by any means necessary because her opinion is diametrically opposed to mine on the idea of refugees.
Do I need to hear specifics of a plan? Hell no. How many of these beautifully crafted campaign platforms have been implemented in the past 30 years? I can really only think of ONE - Newt Gingrich's plan from 1994, his "Contract with America". He moved to act on every single point of that, and a great deal of it got passed even though Clinton vetoed some elements of it.
Obama had all sorts of ideas that he never even acted on, and the one thing he did do (ObamaCare) was farmed out to Max Baucus because the President didn't know what it should look like.
Trump has a stellar reputation in the business community here in New York. People who work with him say he is sensible, reasonable and a good guy. I will definitely vote for him.
