Human Beings generalize first, shoot, and then after the deed is done ask questions later.
Thus the sadness, mankind can be really stupid sometimes even though individual women and men (even collective women and men) are not really that stupid.
The question is can people slow down and think, thus a question of being in an environment that allows you to slow down and think, and once in the environment actually wanting to slow down and think before you do something stupid.

The drone stuff has to do with how the United States does not really know if we got the people we target when we blow people up (something that is not unique to United States but is actually the general norm with warfare). Yet we consul ourselves with propaganda and fancy terms.
All of this has to do with fancy accounting. Civilians are only considered to be women and children under the accounting they use for drones. If you were a man and an adult you are considere da killed terrorist even if you have nothing to do with the terrorists such as when a drone bombed a wedding.
Do understand I am not really against drones. I recognize them as a tool and the tool can be both good and bad at the same time (just like most weapons of war). What I have a problem is with the propagandist and the military accounting where we kill people without being really sure on the military intelligence before sending an aircraft to level the place.
Now my complaints would be the same with both man aircraft and unmanned drones, the difference is that human kind treats drones different than man aircraft. It is like the difference between Netflix instant streaming and Netflix dvds. It is just far easier and simpler to stream a movie than to order a movie wait a few days and then watch it and then send it back. It is very easy to do a drone strike, you are not putting a pilot at danger, and because no human crossed borders it is easier to sell that I am not invading your airspace and thus sovereignty. Aka there is no downside in the immediacy right now, there is no risk, to use the bomb. The only risk is we may kill people that do not deserve killing, and we may be adding propaganda for the enemy.
The things is human beings are not wired form an evolutionary standpoint to consider things like propaganda in war, and we can always rationalize away killing of innocents (especially when we find accounting and marketing people to give something a pejorative name instead of the honest name.) Thus when we see no risk to our body and we may be able to kill someone who is a possible enemy mankind is hardwired from an instinctual point of view to say go ahead and use the bomb. If we are not mindful of our instinct, we can't honestly make rational decisions for part of making rational decisions are being aware of our "blindspots" in human behavior.
