The original post highlights that sad fact. The demands on people are less and less, and consequently, people who know very little may have a degree in something from a dubious educational institution. These individuals believe they are the polymaths of our age as a result. Then they misuse apostrophes in simple sentences while decrying that Obama is really a Muslim - and not just that, a sympathizer of ISIS - and at the same time a committed Marxist devoted to the principles of dialectical materialism (though I doubt they understand either set of ideas enough to see that they are mutually exclusive).
It's not just the Republicans, either. Howard Stern went out on the streets in I believe Harlem back in 2012 to ask about the election. Listen to the results.
And yes, my daughter speaks English and Russian. The Latin is great for teaching grammar early.
