I KNOW you realize that the examples you listed are not only wildly different from each other, but have no bearing on this topic. Seriously, blaming sex ed? Do we have to worry you're going to start calling Teletubbies gay, next?
Your original point was not difficult to understand: "It doesn't matter what they call themselves, a person with a Y chromosome is a man. People shouldn't call them a woman just because they say they feel like a woman."
My rebuttal was, essentially, equally as simple. "Why not? Who's it hurting?"
Your "but that's just how things ARE, you can't deny reality" argument crops up now and then. And it seems perfectly reasonable, on the surface.
But again, the rebuttal isn't difficult to understand:
Point one: Sex and gender are different things. This is indisputable- the words simply mean different things. Simplified, sex is the parts you have, gender is what you inherently "feel" you are. And it's not just like what you "feel" about your favorite color- there are inherent, biological brain differences (see link)
Point two: Gender identity seems to be something intrinsic. If you take a 5 year old boy, and force him to live as a girl, he's still going to feel like he's a boy, even if you do this for years.
Point three: Some people have non-matching sex and gender. Again, you can't really argue with this. If someone comes up to you with a penis and says "I've always felt like I'm a woman," you can see they're sick, or deluded, but they're not LYING to you. Especially given the rampant abuses trans people go through. It's like the old response to critics of homosexuality- "With everything I have to go through, why would I CHOOSE to be this way?"
So. Three incontrovertible facts. You may not like it, it may make you feel "icky," but they're there.
So when someone says that Jenner is a woman, they're obviously referring to her gender. No one is denying she has a Y chromosome.
Jenner's not playing some kind of trick to get into the woman's bathroom. She's not doing it because she was an ugly man. She's not doing it because she was raped by a jock in high school. It is literally how her brain works.
So yeah, you can shriek and wave your hands around, going "But he's not a REAL woman! He's diseased! Don't encourage this nonsense!" Or you can just, you know, not be a dick, and let a person wear a dress if they want.
(I hope this link also shows you that there are, in fact, some actual physical indicators of this, instead of just being the latest fad)
