I think it is funny that your choice for a Belgium recipe comes an American magazine.
When you are a country of immigrants you can expect your food to be the same. But sorry I have eaten a lot "authentic" food from other parts of the world and I am not buying the America ruined it argument. If you go to a high quality restaurant in Hong Kong you will get better food Chinese food then you will get at a strip mall in Fish Kill NY but that is the quality of the restaurant not the quality of the food. These arguments seem to boil down to "it isn't they way momma made it".
Being from Texas I get tired of people talking about authentic Mexican food compared to TexMex like some how the Mexican Americans living in Texas are somehow unworthy of a distinct food style but I have eaten plenty of authentic Mexican food and I will take a fajita or an Austin street taco over eating crickets any day.
