Why don't you ask for my favourite book, too? jh Send a noteboard - 29/01/2015 09:00:22 PM

Don't make me choose!

However, seeing as this is for inspiration, and not to pick my second favourite to be held hostage by aliens (you'll get the memo about your kids later, btw), I suppose I could offer a few ideas.

I like meat in most forms, and since I am such a food snob, I tend to sous vide it nowadays... (admittedly, I don't cook very much during the weekdays...) You can't go wrong with a turkey breast marinated in apple juice and milk (and salt), and left at 57° for three hours. Or maybe just a well cooked steak. Whatever. Pork isn't bad either. And lamb. Maybe a moose stew? chicken is good too.

Ooh, if you can find galangal root, making a tom kha gai isn't that complicated, and it is a really nice soup.

Then there is fish... I prefer it raw or fried, actually.

As for things that go with the meats, I am not a pasta person, so it is potatoes, rice, or bread. I finally found a oven roasted potato recipe I kind of like, by the way, so I'll share it whether or not you want to hear it. Cut potatoes into bite size pieces, boil them with salt and baking soda (Use more than you think should be needed; at least a teaspoon, maybe 3. Oh, remember to use a pot which has plenty of room, it tends to foam a bit) for five (or less) minutes, add spices and oil and spread them out on a baking sheet, and then shove them into the top rack of a hot (225) oven for a while. Take them out when they are nice and crisp.

Oooh, extra nice things on the side is lacinato kale (fry with garlic, add a touch of cream, grate some parmesan on top).

Or if you are not completely averse to brussel sprouts, you could halve those and fry them with garlic, add some butter and (very little) honey, and remember to not fry them too long, since then they smell like satan's underpants (and taste what I could imagine them tasting like)

I'll try to make a lebanese toum garlic sauce soon, that ought to be fun...

The only things I'd demand would be onion, bell pepper, celery, okra, seafood, stock, and the roux. - 30/01/2015 09:38:19 PM 533 Views
