Here in Texas suggesting of splitting off have been around for ever but 90% of the people don't really mean it. I personally think Texas would do fine as an independent state but I doubt it will happen in my life time because there is to much risk for to little gain. What is the argument for Scotland splitting off? What does it buy them for all of that risk?
And the Tories in particular. Scotland (like the NE of England) is an absolutely deadzone as far as Conservative support goes (They got one seat in the south this time around). There is massive dissatisfaction with our current government and seems to have been the tipping point that generated enough support for this result*.
*this isn't a defence of Labour, while the vote would never have happened under them they're still part of the problem.
