Whether or not she was cheating is irrelevant to both his perspective and the issue of whether or not she deserved to get hit (she doesn't, even if she was pulling a train with their entire wedding party). Even if that... betrayal... is sufficient to warrant physical remonstrance, I have to ask if betrayal is the right word, because, again, what else was he expecting?

A common hypothesis about why so many entertainers' marriages fail to last is that in their profession, they, of necessity, focus on themselves personally. The quality of their work, their business establishment, everything, is all about their persons. A craftsman might insure his tools, a merchant his inventory and both their shop, but entertainers' equivalent is their face or throat or legs or whatever. When your profession and life is all about focusing on yourself and drawing attention to yourself, and what people think of you, it's hard to adjust to the properly unselfish focus for marriage.

In the same vein when your life revolves around how effectively you administer violence, you can be expected to take the "have hammer, want nails" approach to problem solving.

Coupled with the obvious lack of self-esteem any sex industry worker has, and the question of how and why she tolerated it for that long is sadly not difficult to surmise.
