go read the article, otherwise you cannot say there is not an open and honest discussion if you are going to ignore reality by dismissing it out of hand as partisan rhetoric. these things are continuing to happen, it is not just 1950s history that we are talking about here. it is the ongoing subjugation of black people at the hands of whites who should know better.
as to your family history: i won't say that you had it better than your counterparts in the black community. but i can guarantee that if you went into a store like Niemann Marcus, the staff is less likely to call the cops on you than those same counterparts you claim to have had the same opportunity as yourself. this is the reason you have had the opportunity to succeed, whether you notice it or not -- because you are not automatically assumed to be a criminal or sociopath simply for the color of your skin.
