Do you think these five Taliban scum are going to just sit quietly in Qatar? I doubt it. Even from Qatar, they can direct acts against the US and coalition allies in Afghanistan. Their mere release is a morale boost. They could easily slip out of Qatar and end up in Pakistan somewhere alongside Mullah Omar. And of course five top-ranking Taliban are not worth one deserter. It incenses me in a way that nothing this President has done has. It undermines the entire point of the war America undertook in 2001 in Afghanistan and has been waging since then, at a cost of more than 1,000 US dead. Unlike the US departure from Afghanistan, which can sort of be justified as an imperfect solution to the problem of an endless war, what Obama did is a direct humiliation to the memory of the dead and a candid admission of defeat.
