My background is chemical engineering. I worked while getting my MS part-time to get experience and decide if I wanted to go down the PhD or MBA track. With the help of one of my professors, I chose the MBA path and couldn't be happier!
FYI - engineering teaches you a lot of skills that help with management/business aspects of a company. That's why there are so many CEO's with engineering backgrounds.
