We promised them that their borders would be honored if they signed a nonproliferation treaty and gave up their nukes. Twenty years later the nation they gave their nukes to has invaded them and are using military force to set up a bogus referendum to steal part of their nation and the other nations has signed onto that promise are standing around make hollow promises of support.

The world is short sighted and naive if they don't think the next nation asked to sign or even honor a nonproliferation treaty won't look at this example. Hell, one of the arguments I keep hearing for not standing up to Putin is we need his help in Iran. I don't see how this sort of blatant disregard for the promises made to Ukraine will help the negotiations with Iran.
