Not sure what you're trying to say here exactly, but it sounds like you're telling me I should just ignore it and move on? Fair enough, I already do for the most par, and so do most people who visit the site. Oddly enough, even though too much politics is cited as a reason for driving away people who want to post non-political threads (by Fox, me, Nebhead, Larry in this thread alone + bunch of others who probably stopped visiting the CMB now since that's all that's left), you think we can just go on without separating out the problem? Well, when all that's left is 5-10 people arguing about the same things, I guess it won't be an issue anymore.
Like I said, most MBs that aren't dedicated to politics/religion have a separate forum for those topics. They create too much division and pointless bickering which gets carried over into other threads and eventually drives out posters who don't want to deal with it anymore. And that sets in motion a death spiral leading to more and more posters leaving who originally came to the site to discuss something other than politics. Contrary to what The Shrike may believe, life without politics and religion is not "desolation" -- most of us would rather be spared the blowhard nonsense coming from some (I don't mean to point to anyone in particular here, just stating) when visiting a supposedly non-political site.
Since this is primarily a forum about Books, and given the complaints, I don't see why politics/religion needs to be on the main forum. If you think it's some type of attraction for bringing in new bibliophiles, please explain.
