in this particular case it seems fair enough, seeing how Syriza seems like the main opposition party in Greece at the moment (and being in the opposition when a country is going through a crisis that bad is of course a political goldmine, so they may well do still better at the next elections).

And I too have my doubts about this crackdown. While Golden Dawn seems to be so repulsive that even the usual suspects of the European populist right haven't chimed in on the issue that I've heard of (either that, or Golden Dawn doesn't get any support just because they happen to be Greek...), that still doesn't make it right to take out political opponents with excuses like this.
