Most of these things are pretty low key and the majority of people just want to finish. It isn't like you are expected to win or anything just set yourself a goal of say 30min and try to meet it. You can run for half an hour a 10 min mile is not really that hard.

There are some great online resources with standard training programs you can follow.

Of course I stopped running some weeks ago when I get sick and havn't found the time or motivation to start back so I really shouldn't be giving advice
