War is inevitable, as long as 2 men are breathing. Better US than somebody worse *NM*

View original postI was born in 1974. Even discounting the events at the end of the Vietnam War (1973-1975), this is what I can recall off of the top of my head:
View original post1980 - Failed rescue of Iranian hostages.
View original post1982 - invastion of Grenada. Bloodless, yes, but still armed intervention.
View original post1983 - suicide bombing in Beirut. This after some Marines were sent into the maelstrom that was the Lebanese Civil War.
View original post1989 - Panama. Capture of Noriega.
View original post1990-1991 - Persian Gulf War buildup and attack.
View original postearly 1990s - Somalia.
View original post1999 - Yugoslavia/Kosovo.
View original post2001-present - Afghanistan.
View original post2003-2010 (or later) - Iraq, part deaux. The sequel was bloodier, more violent, and pretty much sucked ass.
View original postAnd now apparently Syria will be next. No more than 6 years in my nearly 40 years has the US managed to avoid whipping out its military dick. Sure, some of the justifications are better than others, but here's a sobering question:
View original postHow many other nations can you name that have been as involved or more so in the affairs of other, presumably sovereign nations on a military level? It's depressing to consider this and the alternatives do not make for cheery thoughts, either.
It depresses me to realize that not a single decade of my life has passed without US military action

Which makes this even more depressing? (and yes, many were more police actions) *NM*

Depressing or whichever, I'm ex-mil so it has a variety of extra overtones to me

You're absolutely right. The world is pretty peaceful today. In part due to US power.

By 'right' do you mean right as correct or right as in political stance? *NM*

Accurate, valid; no political or moral connotation was meant.

Replace military action for me with civil wars, terrorism, murder over politics, etc *NM*

For the record, I'm still really irritated that "deaux" hasn't been corrected to "deux" *NM*
