How are things? I am full of hot toddys and it's a lovely rainy evening and I would like to know a little bit about your respective lives.
As it happens, I do have a bit of significant news, but vainly feel it merits reservation for a thread of its own. Otherwise, I moved yet again last month; by my reckoning I am averaging about one apartment every six months since leaving the States at the end of 2010, and about ready to stay put for a while. Even though I also intend to move back Stateside late NEXT year. This is why, after a similarly frequent series of moves at the end of the last millennium, I resolved to never unpack anything I do not use at least once a week, since, sooner or later (usually the former,) I will just have to box it up again. On the plus side, doing that teaches one very quickly just what can and cannot be done without for extended periods, which comes in handy if, say, moving across an ocean indefinitely and avoiding freight costs by only bringing two suitcases of stuff.
Work is sporadic, linguistics halting. Jeg bor snakke mer med Erik så vi kan øve norsk. Ironically, the general native familiarity makes learning Norwegian challenging because I must make myself practice it. I could easily live the rest of my life here speaking English exclusively, except university admission requires passing a speaking/listening/reading/writing test (and, unfortunately for me, three out of four is not good enough,) and absent the asset of a technical skill or two most employers want Norwegian proficiency. Now that everyones summer vacation is winding down I will be looking for another Norwegian class; I have to take more anyway since my visa requires 250 hours of language and 50 of cultural education within three years of issuance.
Nothing else really comes to mind at the moment. How are you, and what have you been doing? It has been a while, but then it has been a little while since I have spoken with any wotmaniacs; I think Erik was the last and that was a few months ago.
