Hullo yourself, and see how you like it. Joel Send a noteboard - 10/08/2013 08:32:38 AM

I was thinking today (only hurt a little) about how things always have an effect on the person you are. Oddly, or maybe not so oddly, y'all came to mind.

I haven't really been around, tho I check in from time to time. I do, however, think about Wotmania and the people that so influenced my life from a website.

I learned a lot from you guys... Which is kinda scary if you think about and I feel like something is missing by my skipping out on all of it. There are people I met I still consider family. People I respect and care for that I consider friends. People I am not sure I'd want to ever meet in person, but they taught me something

I guess the question is can someone come back? Can it still hold the same magic? Even at my age (speaking of old is mook still around?) can I learn from the interaction?

Truth is I miss some of you bunches and some of you slightly but I miss you all

No, someone cannot come back, because there is no "back" to which to come, but I assume you already knew that and were being rhetorical. To a probably too great extent RAFO was premised on "going back" to a wotmania that had largely ended well before Mike acknowledged that by making it official. That is not to say we cannot move forward to thing as good or better in a similar environment, but if you want to go back to the wotmania CMB, WoTMB, Chat or whatever else ca. 2002 you need a time machine, not a computer.

You can always learn from the interaction, but the interaction changes as the circumstances do, and circumstances at RAFO in 2013 are quite different from those at wotmania a decade ago (and not just because I am here, though that is obviously the best part. ) For example, there were few (if any) wotmaniacs staying in touch via Facebook or other social media, and ten years ago we could not engage in text, audio or video chat via Skype because it did not exist (okay, that may not TECHNICALLY be true; Wikipedia says it went online in August 2003, so Skype is turning 10 at this very moment, but you get the point.)

Speaking of which, damookster is on Skype, or was the last time I used it much (the failure of attempted wotmania Skype chat and moving in with my wife has reduced my need of Skype except to talk with Stateside friends and family.)

Bottom line is the magic was always in the people, not the site (which was only its catalyst,) and can still be found there.

Congrats and best wishes on your marriage, btw; I am not entirely sure I said that earlier (though I think so,) so want to take advantage of the opportunity to do so.
