Even that statement doesn't speak well of him. LiterateDog Send a noteboard - 26/07/2013 02:48:00 PM

I'm not sure I want someone in a position of power who has uncontrollable compulsions that lead to questionable behavior. If he's willing to humiliate his wife and himself TWICE just to get his kicks, who knows what he'd do in office trying to fulfill or cover them up as needed? If he were a private citizen, then I couldn't care less. The minute you want to wield power over your fellow citizens? Every damned thing about you should be open to public debate.

You know I think the morals police can stick it up their collective ass. But this isn't a case of "I sleep with women outside my marriage and we're okay with that. I've never been unable to control myself." This is a man who literally, and in the fictional statement, has compulsions that he cannot control and that have directly harmed someone to whom he made a commitment. I'd also judge a politician who had an uncondoned affair outside his marriage. Why? If a man can't keep a commitment to someone he claims to love, he sure as fuck isn't going to think very hard about doing it to complete strangers over whom he wields power. It isn't about sex. It's about being an admirable person who is who he claims and can put the interest of others above his own interest. The reason we have so many pieces of crap in public office now is because people don't seem to care about the character of a person but only which team they happen to be on. Team Blue! Team Red! Team Gay! Team Abortion! Team Guns! Team Stick-it-to-the-Rich! Team GimmeGimmeGimme!

How about Team Reasonable and Responsible? How about Team Thoughtful and Wise? Does anything any of you know about Anthony Weiner lead you to believe he is any of those things? Issues are very important, but so is the character of the person wielding enormous influence over the lives of his fellow citizens.
