If we were lawyers, or in law school, especially focusing on criminal law, then yes, this case, this specific case, could be discussed. From a jurist angle, the case has importance in terms of managing a high profile case without letting one's courtroom become a circus. From a Law Enforcement angle it has possibilities in terms of what a 9/11 dispatcher should say, and how police should conduct an investigation. For Neighborhood Watches, in terms of how they should structure their own protocols. In each of those cases there is a very specific reason to discuss it, and a very specific spectrum the discussion should focus on. Perhaps for the public in general one can say parent's would be wise to tell their teenage male children that walking away and/or calling the police is the wiser course of action if they think someone is following them. That should make for a fairly brief conversation. Me, I'm not lawyer, judge, law student, law enforcer, dispatcher, neighborhood watch member, or parent. So I can't think of any positive end I'd have discussing this case. Nor, in the thread, have I seen anyone else indicate they hit any of those criteria except for a parent, and it seems that entire conversation would not even hinge on the outcome of the trial or whether or not it was a just one. "If you think someone's following, walk faster, find a house with lights ons, call the cops, or all of the above" and other than repetition or minor alteration that would seem to be it, and seem common sense advice I'd think parents would offer any kid as part of "Stranger Danger", wholly irrelevant to this case.
Beyond that, what is there? We do not know much about what happened, we can make educated guesses but why should we? The jury has spoken and you seem to agree with their conclusions, truth be told our role, if we even have one, isn't even about their conclusion was right it is at most about whether or not their conclusion was reasonable. I haven't heard many voices shouting that the jury was corrupt, insane, etc. even if they disagreed with the verdict. There's been several thousand murders since this one, nobody cares about those. If its about the politics then yeah, odds are for some time to come and possible for decades to come Mr. Martin will feature on many a banner and t-shirt and be a symbol to some of whatever it is they think he should be. That's life.
Look I'm not even telling you you can't have an opinion on the case. I've got one on OJ's from way back before I decided it was better to ignore these trials. I'm just saying its done and over and best ignored. Nobody discussing it now has any intention of changing their mind, not now, same as with OJ, given a few months or years cooler heads might prevail. That won't happen now. People are too hot over the issue, it's become personal or political or both for them.
