The US criminal justice system has a long and terrible history of judging black people, and young black men in particular, as being unworthy of the same rights afforded everyone else. Martin had every right to be walking down that street, just as Zimmerman had every right to watch him without acting. By acting (i.e. leaving his vehicle), Zimmerman initiated the conflict which ultimately took the life of Martin. By taking Zimmerman's account as factual despite the evidence otherwise, you are also suggesting that a young black male has no right to be walking in a public space without suspicion.

There is zero evidence that Zimmerman is 100% truthful, and the only other person who could tell us what happened is dead. Without a witness to refute or corroborate the story, we are only left with Zimmerman's word that the conflict happened as he told it. Ask yourself why you believe Zimmerman is telling the truth and you get to the heart of why this is a clear example of racial profiling. It is because a young black male doing nothing wrong and with every right to exist is somehow less able to defend himself against a stranger that has been suspiciously following him both in a car and on foot. Would you not fear for your own safety if someone did the same to you? Then why should Martin not have the benefit of self-defense against someone who was clearly overstepping their bounds?
