This is almost too good to be true. Costa Rican lawmakers approved a bill which changed an article from explicitely stating that unions were only recognized if they were between a man and a woman, to "the right to recognition without discrimination contrary to human dignity, social and economic effects of domestic partnerships that constitute publicly, notoriously unique and stable, with legal capacity for marriage for more than three years".

Conservative lawmakers are freaking out, because it could be interpreted as accidentally approving same-sex unions. They're asking the president to veto the bill, because they forgot to do their homework.

On the other hand, I understand it's still open for debate how the bill should be interpreted, so I guess there'll be a court case about it, soon enough.
