View original postThe Mote in God's Eye is classic 70's scfi. Oddly enough I am not really a big fan of either man's solo work but I like their collaborations. I really liked Footfall and Legacy of Heorot as well but to be honest I read them all decades ago and I don't know how well they held up.
Ringworld is a good book but I can't really think of anything else by Niven that really impressed me and even that one is a touch weak plot-wise, alternatively Mote has all the components of a good book without any real deficiencies. While both are pretty solid writers they do seem to make better collaborators.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

For what it is worth, I recommend the Sprawl Trilogy as entertaining and thought provoking.

Re no. 2 – did we find out her parentage in that book? If not, I don't think the question's fair.
