Re: most teams never get it togethr enough to win a Super Bowl Joel Send a noteboard - 01/10/2009 07:10:31 AM
It is just the nature of the beast. With single elimination playoffs it just takes one bad game to end it and often it comes down to one play.

Also true, which is why the Champs have their game face on every week. As noted in The Hidden Game of Football "Super Bowls are won by 'wanting it' in August. "
Jerry is far from perfect but his teams tend to win more then they lose. With salary caps and free agency it is impossible to have dynasties like they used to have so there won't be any teams that can dominate the league season after season.

The Pats and Steelers have managed, though the former seem to have benefited a lot from Belichick sidestepping the rules and getting away with it so long. If he and Brady don't win another one after Spygate their whole legacy will be tainted, which would be a real shame.
Do you really believe you have any real insight into what goes in in the Dallas training camp and their practices? based on what? What makes you believe Romo is distracted by glamor? Some silly news reports? I live in Dallas and he seldom makes the news and I never seem him being anything other then humble. Yes he dated a couple of famous girls but so do most QB. Hell at least he isn't like some QBs in the league and hocking anything he thinks he can sell. Is Payton still playing in the NFL or does he do commercials full time now? How is Brady's modeling career going these days? Does Elway still own ever car dealership in Denver, the ones not owned by Doug Moreland of course.

Main thing that makes me think that about Romo is shots of him looking into the stands instead of in front of him; "the game's out there" as they say. Brady's modeling career is likely to go down the tubes if he doesn't turn off the mic and turn on his work ethic again. Much the same could be said of Peyton; I used to love mocking his "laser, rocket arm" during commercials aired while he was finding ways to NOT win a Super Bowl. For all the "he finally got that monkey off his back" talk, what has he done since? He does seem to put in the effort though, I'll give him that, and that's the difference: As long as a guy is bringing home Lombardis he can have all the positive and lucrative face time he wants off the field. Though even Elway didn't start playing with Senate runs until AFTER he retired (and mercifully for Mark Udall, decided against; Elway would mop the floor with anyone in Colorado. )
The Cowboys need to be more disciplined I agree to that I just don't agree to your rationalization of why. The Cowboys have less legal trouble these days then just about any team around, that has been true every since Jimmy left.

Sure it has... was Michael Irvin found naked in a crackhouse before or after Jimmy left? I mean, I like the guy, but... wow....

Jimmy definitely never served popcorn. He just won Super Bowls.
SO what is the reason the Giants did so poorly their next year in playoffs? They had a better record for the season. You stack the house of card of yours very high based on one game. Lots of good teams lose big games. What is Brady's excuse for losing? Was NE and undisciplined team being lead by a distracted QB?

NE was an undisciplined team being distracted by lack of discipline, Spygate and the idea they could just buy every Pro Bowler not under contract and win a Super Bowl. Which is why they had to trade for a first round pick the following season; the League took their "natural" one away for cheating. The Giants had a great SEASON, but whether they do anything more does remain to be seen. They've still done more than Romo and the Cowboys though.
Winning a Super Bowl earned Manning a ring but he needs to do a lot more to earn a yellow jacket.

Agreed.
