Islam is a religion that preaches violence (from its leaders all the way down to the masses). It is very different that other religions.
Sorry, I know this makes you feel yucky as a liberal, but it is true nevertheless.
Religions aren't monolithic entities. Take Christianity for example. Tens of thousands of denominations, with several viewing other branches with great contempt, if not an outright wish for their dissolution. Same with Islam. No singular body, just various interpretations of the five pillars and others.
Islam, as practiced in SE Asia, differs significantly from that of East Africa and that in turn differs from that of the Arab-speaking lands. Same goes with Christianity in those regions. That you see it as monolithic is very telling.
Almost as telling as you continually making the mistake of thinking that I am "liberal." To me, liberals are mostly upper-middle class whites who make half-hearted gestures toward decrying the excesses of corporate capitalism while they proceed to benefit from privileged access to resources. I favor a preferably non-violent overthrow of current political-social-economic systems and a devolution toward syndicalism. Nothing "liberal" about that
Je suis méchant.
