I think it's a misogynistic and authoritarian faith that doesn't, at least in this Wahabi period, devote nearly enough time to introspection. But I find it incredibly irritating when Christians look down their nose at Islam and act as though their religion has always been the milquetoast post-Enlightenment faith that it is now. It's completely ignoring history and many of the atrocities that were sanctioned by the Church. I am confident that Islam will at some point have an Enlightenment and tone down.
It's also incredibly stupid to support religious profiling.
Check out when the entire Enlightenment occured....let's see....not that long after the Industrial Revolution. And somewhat concurrent with the domestication of electricity...way before there was easy/viable quick travel, let alone instant global communication and collaboration. Christianity went through the Enlightenment phase while the world at large was still in its infant type phase (growing up). What's Islam's issue?
That faith, and those who believe in it, have had quite a bit of time now to go through their Enlightenment phase...yet nothing? Just lately, we've seen nations overthrough their dictators...and elect indivdiuals who are just as oppressive. We have groups of believers tossing acid into girls faces, because they want to go to school....yet their church doesn't call them out publically. We have a faith that is totally cool with threatening the life of someone who draws a picture of their prophet. We have a faith which is totally ok with forcing women to wear head-to-toe coverings because the men apparently can't control their actions?
And all this is happening in the modern era.....
Do you think an Enlightenment is going to happen? Or is it more likely that the Islamic faith itself (as a whole) will be marginalized in the world, and individual adherants will undergo a personal Enlightenment?
