it's a bit too cold in the summer here to properly grow melons and some brassicas. my broccoli took forever to start production and when it did we only had one day to cut it before it started bolting everywhere. bok choy bolts almost immediately here, but my brussels and purple cabbage are still going strong.
i'll pass on the eggs for now, mainly because i don't know how i'd get them that isn't easier than just going to the store i will say that i had turkeys one year and tried processing them and it was not a pleasant experience. mainly because a 45lb turkey is kind of difficult to put into a warm water bath to loosen up the feathers, especially when your mother doesn't want her tub used for such purposes
In my veggie garden I will have:
-Cucumbers - 1variety for pickling and one for slicing.
-Butternut squash
-Cantaloupes
-Zucchinis and yellow summer squash
-Pole beans
-Tomatoes (haven't chosen my varieties yet) some for slicing and canning, and some different colored grape and cherry tomatoes.
-lunchbox/snack sweet peppers. Red, yellow, and orange.
-Beets some gold and some traditional.
-carrots purple haze and two others I forgot which seed packets I ended up with
-broccoli
-peas
-lettuce mix
-scallions
-garlic
-"kick the bucket" potatoes in containers. You hill them with straw and kick the bucket over to harvest. I hope this works.
-herbs. I have a dehydrator so I'll dry what I don't use. Oregano, tons of basil, thyme, sage, chives, bergamot, chamomile. I want to develop a tea garden.
- strawberries, blueberries, cherries, pears, plums, peaches.
I'm waiting for one of my laying hens to get the urge to hatch chicks. You can tell when they are broody, because when you go to collect eggs, she will flatten her wings and body over the clutch of eggs and scream like the alien did at Sigourney Weaver in 'Alien2'. I have ordered meat chickens to arrive April 9th. I will be processing myself. I hope my husband helps.
I'm dying for spring to finally get here to stay so I can smell like dirt again.
You need eggs? I'm getting about 18/day.
