I just can't help but feel that while I appreciate RAFO and Ben's work greatly the community would not have fragmented to such a degree, had there been a "handing over of keys" so to speak.
But yeah, I didn't mean to sound ungrateful.
Perhaps it would have been smoother had Mike announced wotmanias end a few months BEFORE making arrangements to transfer archive material. Yet the order was clearly chosen in an effort to BE responsible, provide for as much of the community to carry on as possible, not leave us in the lurch. Frankly, I question how much material RAFO would have taken even given the chance; CMB stuff, sure, but WoT? Unlikely. We got the format, probably all we ever could/wanted.
Maybe it could have been handled better, maybe not; we can never know if this is the best of all possible realities. It is what it is until/unless it changes, which, ultimately, only members can accomplish. wotmania was fracturing long before Mike announced its end; its activity was already much slower than when I joined in the middle of the last decade, which Elders consistently unanimously affirm was well after wotmanias peak activity. The site change did not help, but was a symptom rather than cause of the underlying problem. "If we build it, they will come;" if not, not. The Admins have done more than their duty; it is past time we members started pulling our own weight. So I am trying VERY hard not to revive the cattiness increasingly common at the end of wotmania, maybe even post stuff worth reading.
