You don't rat friends out. Ever.
Gotta disagree with you on stating it as an absolute.
If my friend went on a murder/rape rampage I'd "rat" him out in a heartbeat. Friends are important, and standing up for them is as well; however, there is a line (everyone's line is in a different place) that can't be crossed. Some might say "shame on you for betraying a friend" I'd counter with shame on my "friend" for putting me in that position.
I need advice badly.
