Some downsides...

There can be corruption- organized crime and unions is a well-known trope.

They can get entrenched- even though teachers don't have it NEARLY as good as some people think, there's a reason why the tenured teacher who is impossible to fire is another trope.

Like, I don't see why this is difficult to understand. It is BAD when one side gets too much power. It's true in politics, it's true for sports teams, and it's true here.

A corporation with no kind of worker protection org opposing it will inevitably take advantage of its workers- or, at the very least, there will be no outside incentive NOT to.

A union that holds all the bargaining power can be a large thorn in its employers' side.

It's not a case of one side being good and the other side being evil. If one side has too much power, it is bad. Full stop.
I amuse myself.

Unions are all about protecting underperforming workers and the union leadership. - 12/12/2012 06:37:41 PM 615 Views
Dude, that's insane. - 12/12/2012 06:58:42 PM 678 Views
That's a bit naive. And instead of evolution, I should have said "ever-changing" - 12/12/2012 06:55:41 PM 564 Views

it's wrong because it ultimately drives down *all* workers' pay, not just the unions - 13/12/2012 11:26:00 PM 588 Views
