So let me get this straight. Dannymac Send a noteboard - 13/12/2012 03:54:14 PM
i'd say pissing off the single industry that employs pretty much everyone who works for a living in michigan can hardly be described as a great thing.

A few years ago, Toyota wanted to open up a new factory in Michigan. It was going to bring in about two thousand jobs. Then negotiations with the UAW fell through, so they built it in Mississippi (a right to work state) instead.

As others have said, unions had an important place in the history of our nation and our state, but their time has come and gone.

The UAW (which wants its members hired) negotiates for a reasonable wage. Toyota says "screw that" and sends the factory to a state where unions can't enforce that sort of thing, to a state so depressed that people will take the jobs for whatever they can get.

Adding Michigan to that list of states is a good thing? "Whew, so glad our workers now have to take whatever wages management feels like paying them!"

Yeah, a real good thing for your state. I'm sure the auto executives (always paragons of fair play to the common man) will take great care of your workers.

I just think it's so... odd... that people don't realize things constantly evolve. - 12/12/2012 05:18:11 PM 637 Views
Isn't this a symptom of evolution? - 12/12/2012 06:12:36 PM 679 Views
we also don't need unions to keep people on the job who are bad at it..... - 12/12/2012 06:20:22 PM 676 Views
Unions are all about protecting underperforming workers and the union leadership. - 12/12/2012 06:37:41 PM 612 Views
Dude, that's insane. - 12/12/2012 06:58:42 PM 676 Views
That's a bit naive. And instead of evolution, I should have said "ever-changing" - 12/12/2012 06:55:41 PM 562 Views

it's wrong because it ultimately drives down *all* workers' pay, not just the unions - 13/12/2012 11:26:00 PM 585 Views
